Ana Maria
Gutierrez
Jun 24, 1929 — Dec 20, 2020
Ana Maria Gutierrez died suddenly of (non-COVID-related) heart failure on December 20, 2020. She was 91. A long-time resident of Douglas, she used her Master's Degree in Business Administration to establish and run her own business, one which led her to hold numerous real-estate properties throughout the region. She had a caring and generous nature and will long be remembered for her willingness to seek out and help those who had needed a helping hand. Ana Maria was the widow of Amado "Chief" Gutierrez, a Douglas native well-known for his athletic prowess and his work as a union leader for the employees of the Phelps-Dodge Reduction Works (copper smelter). She is survived by nine of her 10 children—Alfonso (Ofelia); Elsa, Ana (Tom), Maria (Jeff); Lucia (Danny), Jorge (Pat); Jessie (Rochelle); Susanna; and Mario (Cinnamon). She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Lupita; son-in-law, Danny Swift; and sister, Consuelo. She leaves behind 26 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Services will be held beginning with a Rosary at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30, after which she will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery beside her beloved Amado.
