Alfred "Sonny" Joseph Bess passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Banner University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. Alfred was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 20, 1925 to Dewey B. and Lillian Stewart Bess. The family resided in San Antonio until November of 1932 when they moved to Douglas. Alfred served in the U.S. Army's Quartermaster Corps during World War II. He later served in the Army's 7
th
Infantry Division during the Korean War. Alfred retired from the U.S. Army having received his Honorable Discharge in September of 1965. Following his service, Alfred moved to Tucson where he worked at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base until August of 1978 where he worked for twelve years until his retirement. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Waymon G. Bess and Alan W. Bess, Sister Joyce F. Wilson and niece Marjorie A. Primes Rembert and Nevada Stewart. He is survived by his sister Ella V. Griffin of Pirtleville, nephew Damian C. Rembert and sons, nephews Johnny Bess and Waymon Bess, Jr., cousins Arthur Steward, Carl Steward, Azalea and children; Michael, Logan, Paul, Elissa, Love, D'Andre, Jaia, Elijah, Avani, David, Musa, Achmed along with extended Family members of the Stewart, Lewis and Bryant families. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Veterans' section at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors by the Fort Huachuca Honor Guard and American Legion.
