Alejandro M. "Cano" Santa Cruz went peacefully to be with the Lord on May 29, 2014. He was born March 5, 1926 to Anselmo R. and Carmen Medina Santa Cruz. Cano, a native of Douglas, proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army during World War II. Retiring from Phelps Dodge, he touched the hearts of many during his lifetime as an avid craftsman who took pride in his carpentry and the electrical work that he did for so many people. Cano was preceded in death by his wife Eva B. Santa Cruz, and his two sons Frank and George. Cano is survived by his children Margaret Noperi, Carmen Avendano, Molly Santa Cruz, Luis and Manuel Santa Cruz. His brother William Santa Cruz and sisters Norma Tovarez and Anita Galindo. He is also survived by his 18 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. Cano had a kind heart and will be greatly missed by all his family and those that loved and respected him. A Rosary for Cano will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at the Brown Page Mortuary Chapel. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion and VFW. Pallbearers who will serve are Alex Noperi, Luis Rios, Frank Rivas, Eric Garcia, Sergio Moreno and Ricky Peralta. Honorary Pallbearers are Andrew Enciso, Danny Rivas, Jase Moreno, Art Rivas, Felipe Bernal and Luis Santa Cruz.
