Agustina Saavedra de Duron, 89, passed away on June 3, 2017. She is lovingly remembered as an extraordinarily kind, soft-spoken, and intellectual mother, grandmother, and friend.
Agustina was born to the late Abraham Saavedra Ochoa and Petra Encinas de Saavedra in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico on May 28, 1928. She attended Douglas Senior High School, where she was active in the Golden Key organization, was elected twice to the National Honor Society, and graduated as Valedictorian of the class of 1948. She was a lifetime member of St. Luke's Catholic Church, often volunteering in the Choir and Women's Groups in support of the Parish operation. She was employed by the Douglas Unified Schools District as a Teacher's Aide in 1980, retiring in 2003 after a satisfying and fulfilling career working with children. After more than twenty years, many of her former students still fondly remembered her, affectionately referring to her as "La Miss".
Agustina was blessed with a large and loving family. She married the love of her life, Conrado Duron Acosta, on November 25, 1950 in Douglas, AZ and raised their five children with patience, discipline, and humility. An educator at heart, she encouraged them to strive for scholastic excellence, diligently apply hard work, and respect others.
Her devotion to her family and firm belief in God gave her tranquility in her final days. She is and will be dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is now at peace.
Agustina is survived by her sons Jorge Luis (Olga) and Miguel Conrado (Mary) Duron; her daughters MariaDolores Duron, Anna Alicia (Joseph) Waltman, and Sylvia Susanna (Julio, Jr.) Morelos; her grandchildren: Marc Anthony, Alexandra Judith, Hannah Faith, and Troy Conrad Duron, Christopher Matthew and Daniel Joseph Waltman, and Julio III and Maria Isabel Morelos. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers, Abraham Jr. and Raul Saavedra.
A rosary will be recited at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at St. Luke's Church. Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 noon followed by the burial service in Calvary Cemetery at 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow at St. Luke's hall ending at 4 p.m. Reverend Gilbert Malu Musumbu will officiate the service.
